The New Era of Taylor Swift

Included in this collection are pictures of Meredith and Olivia (Taylor’s adorable cats), three women holding colorful briefcases, and oddest of all, several framed paintings of baby chickens wearing sunglasses.

Devoted Swift fans soon uncovered that Taylor would be releasing the first single and music video of her new album in collaboration with Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco.

On the night of the release, hundreds of thousands of Swifties flocked to YouTube to watch and listen to the live release of the new song, titled “ME!”

Naturally, the pop-star broke several YouTube records in hours, including the biggest female and solo 24-hour music video debut on the streaming service. The video currently holds over 200 million views.

Taylor later revealed that, despite the short countdown, the release of her single had been planned for well over a year.

Upon careful investigation, clues foreshadowing “ME!” can be found dating back to March 2018, where Taylor’s nails in the vertical music video of her hit song “Delicate” featured an identical color scheme as seen in the new music video.

This practice of leaving “easter eggs” for her fans to discover has become a tradition for Taylor Swift. The singer even revealed that the title of the new album is hidden within the music video, along with countless other clues.

“ME!” as described by Taylor Swift, is “about embracing your individuality and celebrating it and owning it.”

With this positive message, Taylor hopes that the song is “one that makes [listeners] feel better about themselves.” The upbeat single’s playful lyrics and catchy tune do just that.

This is not the first time Taylor Swift has encouraged others to accept their uniqueness. The singer has long since been an active supporter of the LGBTQ community, speaking out against bigotry and rallying for their equal rights.

In April, Swift donated $113,000 to the Tennessee Equality Project, an LGBTQ advocacy group that lobbies the Tennessee government.

More recently, Taylor sent a letter to Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander, encouraging the politician to support the Equality Act, a bill which would protect LGBTQ citizens from discrimination in their places of work, homes, and schools.

In the letter, Swift writes, “for American citizens to be denied jobs or housing based on who they love or how they identify, in my opinion, is un-American and cruel.”

She further expresses her antipathy to the lack of protections for LGBTQ Americans, saying “the fact that, legally, some people are completely at the mercy of the hatred and bigotry of others is disgusting and unacceptable.”

Taylor’s activism has earned her praise from fans and the LGBTQ community alike.

As the summer approaches, Swift fans anticipate that another single will be released very soon.

Until then, we will undoubtedly continue to listen to “ME!” on repeat and enjoy the artist’s bright and colorful new era.

“Without your past, you could never have arrived—so wondrously and brutally, by design or some violent, exquisite happenstance…here.” - Taylor Swift
