In April 2016, it was announced that a pipeline was to be built across sacred Native American burial grounds and the Missouri River. Since then, thousands of Native Americans, especially those from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, have been camping out in protest.

Twitter Layoffs/Vine Discontinuation

October 27th, 2016, Twitter announced that it would be laying off nine percent of their employees. CEO Jack Dorsey said that “The restructuring, which focuses primarily on reorganizing our sales, partnerships and marketing efforts, is intended to create greater efficiency.”

Since Twitter employs around 3,900 people, nine percent would result in 351 people getting fired. It is surprising that Twitter let these people go because its revenue, earnings per share, and even active users have increased during the quarter.
